REVERSO
was formed in 1996 in Havana, Cuba, under the direction of Gabily Anadón
and Pablo Roca, and it originally included eight dancers: four of them
male and four of them female, all of them belonging to the National School
of Art. This institution currently hosts the Meeting of Dancers and
Choreographers, meeting which witnessed the beginning of REVERSO's career.
REVERSO also performed on the Dance Day Festival and the Dance and Theater
Meetings at National Theater.
In August 1996 REVERSO premiered "Uncertain Be-Coming", on the
Cobarubia Hall of the National Theater.
Nowadays, REVERSO continues performing at Havana, Cuba, under the
sponsorship of Pablo Roca, and including the new works by its founder,
Gabily Anadón, who stills co-directs the Group from Argentina.
In March 1997 REVERSO is formed in Buenos Aires, Argentina, including
eight female dancers and featuring a more theatrical profile.
REVERSO was selected to participate in the Buenos Aires Does Not Sleep
Festival both in 1997 and 1998. They reached the final round of the
Antorchas Fundation Grant for two consecutive years and they got the
National Foundation for the Arts Creation Grant in 1998, with
"Frigate Heroine", also subsidized by the Secretary of Culture
of the Province of Buenos Aires. The aforementioned play premieres in
October 1st at Cemento, with a full month and a half of shows. REVERSO
also participates on a Japan-Argentina meeting at San Martín Cultural
Center.
On 2000, "Frigate Heroine" is revived for a full two months of
shows, with excellent criticisms.
"Frigate Heroine" is chosen by Buenos Aires Contemporary Dance
Festival, to be performed on October 18 and 19 2000 at the Hernesto Bianco
Hall in San Martín Cultural Center.
On February 3 2001 Reverso was hired by Buenos Aires Town Hall to perform
"Frigate Heroine" at the Buenos Aires Summer Festival, as well
as Palermo and San Telmo's Open Workshop.
On October 2001 they performed "Frigate Heroine" at Urban Space
along with several Guest Artists.
In December of the same year they traveled to San José de Costa Rica to
perform at the Festival of Young Choreographers and to give a Seminar on
Cuban Modern Technique for the National Ballet of Costa Rica.
On December 15 they traveled to Mexico to contact local groups.
Reverso is currently preparing the premiere of "Century Zero",
which has received a subsidy from Prodanza and has been selected for the
Buenos Aires Contemporary Dance Festival.
"Century Zero" also featured in a documentary about Argentina's
political situation, filmed in August 2002 by BBC, and shown in London in
October 2002.
Centuria
Cero recieved a prize to quality from the Instituto Nacional del Teatro (
National Institute for Theatre ). The performance “Centuria Cero” was
performed in the contemporary space of the Centro Cultural Recoleta during
April and May 2004. The Instituto Nacional del Teatro , Prodanza and the
Fondo Nacional de las Artes ( National Fund for Arts ) gave subsidies to
the creation of the project KARO, premiereing at the Presidente Alvear
Theatre December 17 and 18 2005 for the III Buenos Aires Contemporary
Dance Festival.
In
2005 recieves a subsidy from Fondo
de Cultura de la Ciudad de BuenosAires (Buenos Aires cultural fond), in
cooperation with the Centro Cultural de la Cooperación and rehearses Karo
vertical premiering 2006 at the Sala Solidaridad.
